The painting depicts the ruins of MaCartie More’s Castle, Castelough, Killarney. The ruins of the castle are visible on a narrow piece of land jutting out into Loch Léin (Lower Lake). Torc Mountain is visible in the background.
Artist: Alexander Williams (1846-1930). Born in Monaghan town, Williams was a versatile man, who was largely self-taught as an artist. In 1902 Lord Ardilaun granted Williams permission to paint in and around the Muckross Estate.
