An elderly man with thinning white hair and a moustache is sitting on a wooden chair. He is looking directly at the viewer and is dressed in a black coat with silver collar. He holds a cigarette in his right hand while his left hand rests upon the arm of the chair and supports his head.

This is a facsimile portrait of William Bowers Bourn (1857-1936), husband of Agnes Moody and father of Maud Bourn Vincent. A portrait of Agnes hangs on the wall opposite.

Artist: Sir William Orpen (1878-1913). A child prodigy, Orpen was born in Dublin in 1878 and died in London in 1931. This is a facsimile of the original.

In 1995 Mr Arthur W. B. Vincent presented the original of this painting of his grandfather as a gift to his grandparents’ former residence, ‘Filoli’, California, USA.

A portrait of William’s wife, Agnes Moody of New York, hangs on the facing wall.
