Title: ‘Mrs Bowers Bourn’

An elderly woman with white hair looks off to the viewer’s left. She is wearing a purple dress of shiny material with a rasberry-coloured lace shawl. Her hands are clasped together in her lap. This is a facsimile portrait of Agnes Moody (d. 1936), of New York. Agnes was the wife of William Bowers Bourn and the mother of Maud Bourn Vincent. A portrait of William hangs on the facing wall.

Artist: Sir William Orpen.(1878-1913). Orpen, a child prodigy, was born in Dublin in 1878 and died in London in 1931. This is a facsimile of the original.

In 1995 Mr Arthur W. B. Vincent presented the original of this painting of his grandmother as a gift to his grandparents’ former residence ‘Filoli’, California, USA. ‘Filoli now belongs to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
