04. Runaway Horse-Cart

Untitled.

This work depicts a horse-drawn cart travelling at speed over rough ground. The man driving the cart forward is looking backwards, towards the viewer’s left as if he is being pursued. In his right hand he holds a raised whip and is obviously whipping the horse forward. Another man, in a top hat, appears to be lying down in the cart.
